Junior Sailing Parent and
Sailor Resources

Here are the boats we sail and what we have learned about them so far on this awesome journey.

WASZP Foiler

The Waszp is an Australian, single-handed, hydrofoiling sailboat that was designed by Andrew McDougall as a one-design racer in 2016.

29er Skiff

The 29er was designed in 1998 by Australian skiff legend Julian Bethwaite and the class has now grown to over 3,000 active boats worldwide.

ILCA (LASER)

The Laser was first introduced to the public in 1971 at the New York Boat Show and as of today over 200,000 have been sold. This is the only boat on the list with true year round competition in Annapolis.

c420

The Club 420, or C420, is a derivative of the 420 and is not recognized by World Sailing or the International 420 Class Association. Designed by Vanguard boats in the 1970s, it has a heavier hull, reinforced for durability in institutional sailing, and a stiff, untapered mast.

Kitchen Sink

We have collected the thoughts and opinions of a diverse group of sailors and parents here in an ongoing and live way to try and answer more of your questions. Venue, New Parent Need To Know, Gear, Travel, College, High School Sailing and more. Enjoy!

At Hampton Yacht Club, we say not all classrooms have four walls. The sport of sailing can be a teacher or a mentor for life. Sailing demands intellectual curiosity, team work, integrity, attention to detail, and a personal work ethic, skills that transcend on and off the water.
